Today in class, the three things that I learned were:
1. I only recognize people out of class (church, work, etc) after I know something about them. Both Liz and Ellie are in my American Heritage class, and I only realized that today. I wouldn't have even noticed them, had we not done so many exercises in class to get to know each other.
2. People become more beautiful once you know their personalities. It is hard to explain this, but I think that in most classes, you glance at a few kids, then for the most part stare at your notebook or at the instructor, and rarely get a chance to really LOOK at your classmates. Since we've had so much time to just listen to people talk about themselves and since we've really had to memorize faces, everyone is just so dang good-lookin'! But really, I think that as we get to know people, their spirits really begin to shine through, and we can see them as sons and daughters of Heavenly Father.
3. I feel so comfortable with everyone in that class, simply because they know my name. Hearing nearly complete strangers recite my name makes me feel like I am a part of something, instead of a seperate individual, fighting a battle on my own. I feel a real sense of belonging in that class when I hear each person go around and recite everyone's names, including mine.
Application: I am going to try to look a little harder into people as I meet them so that I will be able to see them as children of God instead of a bunch of blank, unfeeling faces.
